Over the years, Africans have been said to be introverts
and selfish. Whether true or not, our societies are there
for our own eyes to see. We can be our own judges.
"Let Me Think" is a column designed to serve as
a catalyst to Tescan minds, trained as they have been, to
look through their national lives by the mirror of another's
mind. It will be observed that we, as Tescans, are of a
certain mind, but our training, which is supposed to make
us role-models and sociable, has on the other hand made
us "I don't careists".
"Let Me Think" is to find a way of bringing Tescans
together as one big family to show the rest of the nation
that we are the GIANTS. By our motto: Mente Et Manu, our
true position is confirmed!

Dear Giant,
Greetings!
I am back again with a pain 'in' (or is it "on") my
heart. Oh, my friend, what do I do? When every body is acting
like he has no mother, and nothing about our mother's well-being
seems to mean nothing at all to him, but seem to enjoy the sound
of talking about her poor state, what do I do?
Am I being too something? Am I rather being too soft to understand
our brethren? My friend, my brother please tell me. Speak to me!
Don't just stand there looking into my eyes like I've just dropped
from another planet here. Oh my people, come and here something.
Is thinking about Mother Tesco and desiring her good busy-bodying?
Am I only dreaming about brethren who are none-existant? Can't
we feel a little shame when we point to our mother? Don't we have
a sense of belonging? Is our dear mother Tesco so useless and
irresponsible and worthless to consider coming together for her
good as well as ours?
It has happened unto mother as was said in the big old book:
"I have brought forth children, cared and nurtured them and
they have turned their backs on me; they have turned against me.
Hear oh heaven, hear oh earth, and judge between us
"
These are the very words of mother Tesco! Wherever we are, let
us seek to know one another and join together to help ourselves
to help mother Tesco. It is never too late. Let us do it now,
else posterity will judge us.
Oh! My brother, did I say hello? Oh no! I am sorry. Hellooo!!!
Is it okay? You know, I was passed through a temporary darkness
one day; and this is what I aid to myself: "If the light
of the body is filled with darkness -- the eyes being the light
of the body -- what a great darkness shall the body be in!!!"
Just look at yourself wanting to do something and, even, taking
steps at doing it, but because the success and failure of this
thing depends on the whims and caprices of another human being,
who, even though know the importance of your desire, and acknowledges
the immense good this project will do to him also, behaves as
if he doesn't care whether you succeed or not, and even works
as if he wants to sabotage the whole process by disregarding the
importance of time in this matter, how will you feel? What will
you do?
The whole thing bothers on money, and you have trusted him to
source it out better than you, because of his contacts. You are
looking at an amount in the region of about ¢480,000,000.
You have just about a week left for you to raise this much money,
and out of the blue your man vanishes into thin air. You have
no account in any bank, and if even you had, you'll need collateral;
but this too you don't have; what shall you do? How will you feel?
What ideas will race through your head? How will you react?
My brother, when this friend is narrating his story to me, he
was so "breketeech" that I was pushed into the story.
Let me try to take your hand and walk you through the emotional
landscape that I went through.
"Man, oh man, I've made a mistake. I shouldn't have left
everything to him. At least I could have done something small
on my own, at my own pace". I thought. No it is better to
owe a few people at a time than to owe many who will not understand
entirely your vision and put unnecessary pressure on you, so let's
look for this man and encourage him to do his best." Should
I rather side-step him, so that in case he means evil I will not
be completely let down? But how shall I do this in the face of
the limited time on hand?" I kept thinking. These thoughts
kept chasing each other in and out of my mind and getting me very
crazy.
Some of the thought, as you may imagine, could take the steam
out of me and from nowhere another thought would come with dry
heat to knock the cold, wicked ones out of the system. This is
like going through rain without a raincoat on and then being pushed
into a cold storage area when you decided to look in it. As you
struggle out of it you find fire running through your system.
When you lose control of yourself you will sink into the abyss.
You have to be feeling around and grope in this darkness until
a light appears from somewhere to bring back on your face the
long gone smile. Haa! As the story went on I was made to understand
that he found his man ill in bed. Oh! What a calamity!! Upon speaking
to him he still assured him of success. Isn't this heart-warming?
What shall the very old giants say? Should the young giants smile;
or should they still grope in the emotional darkness of uncertainty?
Come, come my friend. Climb up mount Afajato with a microphone
in hand and shout over the hills and valleys to every Tom, Dick,
and Harry that all hands should be on deck. Certain people are,
either unknowingly or intentionally, creating barriers between
those who have and are willing and those who have not but yet
willing. These people should rather be told to create likes for
better cooperation. Mother Tesco needs us all. This man called
the Okyeame of the great Tescon workshop, the spokesman of the
mother Tesco, is the son of Mr Rock, should be contacted with
question like, "How can I get in touch with the family members
in any area?" or "How can I do this and that for mother
Tesco?", etc. and he will be a great help to such requests.
When Governor MacClean asked, he was told and now our mother has
a printer by him. Thanks to him.
Those who are not willing should just come around and interact
with brethren for a healthy, Tesco family. Then shall we pray
this prayer (not in dining hall only but in our soul): "Some
want, they don't get; others get, they don't want; but we want
and we have get, so thank you Lord!" Snr. Ashietey will not
be there this time with his ladle to knock your head.
Snr. Ashietey!! Where are you? Come out of your hideout; Commander,
sir!! We need your sanitary perfect on the line to help correct
the emotional sanitary imbalance in the system. Commander, I have
heard that this man is bleketeeh in AFKO! Ohh! Wisdom, come out
for a salute. Prof Akosa should also come around with his hypodermic
syringe to inject commitment into the system. All Giants should
show up in their numbers wherever they are to plan how we can
celebrate our mother's centenary. Shall we at this point join
madam Dorothy F. Gurney to say: "O perfect Life, be Thou
our full assurance of tender charity and steadfast faith, of patient
hope, and quite brave endurance, with child like trust that fears,
no pain nor death."
Shine Thou upon us, Lord, True Light of men, today, and through
the written word reveal your very self; so that from hearts which
burn with gazing on the face, the little ones may learn the wonders
of thy grace. This grace being established will instil a new tradition,
which will carry on adinfinition.
Hey! My time is up, friend, and I've got to go. See you!
Your brother,
Kwame Appia-Ankuma
