Dear Tescan,
How are the mighties, the Giants, standing?
I was just considering certain things when I realized that there
is really more sleep in death, yes! Death, I think, is the most
feared by men, in this world (though it is the only sure way to
go to heaven). Yet it is the route to advancement. A seed cannot
multiply until it first gets rotten. Without sacrifice there cannot
be growth in technology. Evolution is enhanced when more people
get committed to the power of God.
Anyway! I was thinking why Tescans are what we are. We seem to
appreciate the idea of socialization, but are seen to be too individualistic
in our thinking. We forget that a better avenue and circumstance
is created, within and without, for problem solving.
We are people very well trained to carry the wheel of development
on our shoulders, but seem to fail to realise that we owe all
these abilities to our Alma Mater. This is where the importance
of education in social life is very prominent. So I asked myself
what education is all about. Is it for more information on science
and technology? Do we have to include social activities to the
information to make it complete?
Why is that the more people get trained to master certain trades,
the more selfish and treacherous they become. Should training
of people for this purpose seize? I do not believe so! Such training
seems to put power into the beneficiary's hands, but because of
the form this education takes in our part of the globe, they fail
to realize that they are part of a race called humans, and that
their presence in that group is like a grain of sand in the construction
of a building. Am I rather becoming confused about what education
is all about? I hope so. What is education? Let me check up with
the ALD.
Hey folks! What do I have here?
1. "Systematic training and instruction". If I may ask;
"instructions to what end?"
2. "Knowledge and abilities, development of character and
mental power, resulting from such training". I ask again;
" to achieve what goal?"
Yes! It is the goal. I think it is the goal that has caused all
this misunderstanding.
Alright, let's see what the other dictionary says. This is also
what the "new modified illustrated dictionary" says:
"cultivating and disciplining the various powers of the mind".
Again I ask myself what specific direction is this training for.
Or is it that I do not understand or have no understanding at
all for these sorts of things? No! I do not think I lack understanding.
I think our system of education limits our training to the acquisition
of factual knowledge and it ignores the development of the faculty
of intuition, the equipment to penetrate beyond the Scientifics
into the intangible world of meaning which lies behind the symbolism
of intellectual facts. By this our minds have been rendered static,
by being creamed with a range or collection of ill-digested facts
and details.
We have thus ignored utilization of the creative imagination.
Due to the foregoing, our doctors and professors cannot come up
with new things. This is where I see the root of education come
into being: "e"_ out and "duco" _ to lead.
Therefore education is to lead one form one level of consciousness
to a higher one. A stage where we could say one should live for
the good of all. This automatically leaves one with the responsibility
to help in the advancement of the human race.
Let's look from a different angle. If your mother brings you
up in training you should also care for her in her old age. Tesco
is 93 years old. She is old and thus needs attention and care.
If we do this we shall be playing our part as responsible and
responsive children.
"Azoya!!" Get back in line.
The road to "Downcoast" is damaged. The backyard from
Ritchie and Einstein houses is appalling. The walls are broken
down. We shall be celebrating mother Tesco's 95th birthday soon
(this we want daze big!) so we need to clothe her in new apparel.
I believe we shall all feel very great to find her very well adorned.
Let's prove to the world that we are the Giants!
Mother Tesco, ayekoo!!
Your brother,
Kwame Appia-Ankuma
