Dear Giants,
Greetings!! I believe the Mighties are standing; not falling.
As I was saying, education is the bedrock of our society, but
it must be properly directed.
When I was journeying in the path of Alice, which led her to
the path of wonder, I realized I had almost gotten there, when
I spotted some spies (by their looks) so I stopped. There and
then one of them lifted a hand and there was a crowd of them,
all in red and white-stripped shirts. "What is the meaning
of all this?" I asked the one who seem their leader, the
one who lifted his hand. They all shouted in unison; "Mente
Et Manu!!"
"Ah, yes! Mente et Manu". This struck a chord in my
mind. What is the significance of this Tescan motto? Why did our
founders choose such a motto? Was it just as a result of it being
a technical school? I believe it was more than just that.
"Man" is from the Sanskrit word "Manu", meaning
"human being", the root of which, "man", means
"to think". "Man" thus means "thinking
entity" or "one who thinks". This does not concern
sexual gender but rather, that aspect which is common to all members
of the human kingdom. This is that which endows humanity with
the "mind". The mind is both a factor of limitation,
of separation and of contact with the inner and higher realms.
The mind is a recorder of impressions of all kinds.
Humanity's destiny is to be the exponent, the interpreter or
representative of the mind of god. Thus shall we be seen as working
with God as co-workers with the Christ. This is supposed to be
the target of education. With the hand we help the mind to bring
into being the impressions. This is the relevance of our motto:
MENTE ET MANU. By this our leaders and founding fathers of Tescoare
saying that they recognise the role of humanity as the throat
centre and the prime creative agency upon our planet, earth.
The outstanding characteristic of the human race at this present
stage in evolution is its capacity for intelligent sensitivity
to impression. As humanity becomes adept at invoking the impression
of the centre of inclusive love, cohesiveness, and the circulation
of life-bearing energy, the civilizations and cultures created
by man will adhere increasingly to the plan. Man is now at apoint
where the intellect is so strongly awakened that nothing can arrest
his progress into knowledge which could be dangerously used or
selfishly applied if nothing were done to safeguard him from himself.
Look at the greater number of Tescans and you will understand
what I am saying. As you keep asking why Giants should go to extent
of what happened at the girls' school, know that it is but an
infitismal part of the universal proportions of degeneration in
morals.
Man must be taught to respond higher, more spiritual values;
or the increasing stage of integration of many millions of human
beings will simply be directed, with effectiveness, to selfish
and materialistic purposes.
This form part of manifestation - mind, emotion and brain - must
be brought into correspondence with wisdom, love and directed
purpose. This is what the motto is to instil in us, old Giants.
What are we doing? Let's get together to influence, positively,
the young and we shall all be proud (really proud) as products
of Mente Et Manu.
Because it is a motto, and not a car, we have to guide it carefully
to greatness.
Ciao!!
Your brother,
Kwame Appia-Ankuma
