After 95th Anniversary Celebrations, what next? - Contributions so far.

Thoughts from Giants across the globe.

I believe GSTS did actually ''touch'' or ''change''my life, greatly(for the better),and I presume, this applies to every Yaw,Kojo or Adjoa(latter day Giants);who attended this Great School.I say this because;whoever attended this Great School reaped/enjoyed so many great benefits.

1/ GSTS was and still is a special selected school-which ensured the best quality of education and services at a really affordable cost.

2/ Few schools can beat GSTS.As a Westonian-I would not say GSTS is simply The Best.GSTS is always with the best. The service you get at GSTS is really really Super.

3/ I had a peace of mind when I left GSTS-knowing very well that I had been given a solid foundation for life.GSTS gave me the reassurance that I have had the neccessary basic educational background and come what may-I was protected and thus bound to succeed.

4/The Gold Star service at GSTS then/now paid/pays particular attention to each students' personal needs and the aim of GSTS was to delight you in doing so.

5/Every ex-GSTS student contributes greatly to his/her families fortunes and to Mother Ghanas' as well.A whole bunch of Giants out there, are the'unknown soldiers'-who are making huge differences to the lives of thousands of people each year in Ghana and elsewhere(globally).

From small beginnings; most Gold Coasters, might not have dreamt of the integral role that GSTS would play in the moulding of lives of school children and also how GSTS would help build Ghana.

Previous Governments realised the importance of technicians;artisans;mechanics;engineers;scientists etcwho were needed-to use their-minds and hands-MENTE ET MANU-to build Ghana. Previous Governments gave GSTS the best possible chance to survive and succeed. They gave funds,so that GSTS became well equipped to deliver. This unflinching support for GSTS; allowed GSTS to grow from a little acorn to become The Mighty Oak-we are now proud of. During my time - GSTS had the accolade - JUNIOR UNIVERSITY OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY. If GSTS had not had that support and injection of money from previous Governments; GSTS would not have been able to progress like we all see today. Today GSTS products are everywhere doing yeomens' jobs; helping Ghana and the world at large. Thanks to previous governments; we are all happy to measure the impact GSTS has had on our lives over the years.

Over to you now present students ex-students of GSTS. Become heroes to GSTS now! GSTS needs only $1,000,000 (yes One million dollars American) at this present moment. This is not an unachievable goal! Tables; chairs and most structures are dilapidated. Basic, vital equipment in the labs and workshops need upgrading. Water and Sewage system is appalling. Remember there are many many GSTS Giants everywhere.GSTS has made so many people GREAT. This is ''pay back'' time. GSTS GREAT people-make''great great small donations''to GSTS. Such great many small donations will keep GSTS afloat.

I spent 5 GREAT YEARS at GSTS-from 1963-1968. GREAT Fun; GREAT Education! GREATLY SATISFIED. I am setting the ball rolling now. Action speaks louder than words! For a start I am pledging $1000 (one thousand dollars American) towards the $1,000,000 GSTS requires. In effect for each year I spent at GSTS I give 'only' $200. Will other 999 Giants beat me on my offer! Something Great is coming your way GSTS!By the end of 2008; God Willing!Insha Allah! $1,000,000 will be made available for your disbursement. I promise to see to that. My year group knew me as - Anum Yemoh; LBJ; Speedy Palm Salas; Johnny; I prefer to be addressed now as Opanyin Yaw Boafo. Wishing all GSTS Giants who read my contribution all the best. God Bless you all!

infact, i feel very worried when i see old students from Mfantsipim, Adisco, Presec and others in unity and we can not come together.people are raedy to sacrifice for their old school, fellow giants, we really need to come together. we are very many and we are all over, we can be together if we want to. let us learn to appreciate our school and help build mother Tesco for our future children.

Most of them dont know whats happening. I think we can make more noise about GSTS through the media since we have people like Papa Duncan etc who are doing soo well in the media sector.

The so-called big schs in Ghana have all been made big by their old students. I wish to use this medium to speak to fellow Giants: Let's be proud of our school. GSTS is no mean school, it's produced countless numbers of Big men and women. Let's talk about our sch like others do. Let's get our sch into the news. Let's make a lot of noise. These would make other old boys and girls as well as students very proud of our sch and get them to give their support. I for one don't hesitate to make everybody around me know I am a Giant with a lot of pride. Long live GSTS. Long live Mother Tesco. Long Live Ghana. We shall continue to be the best Science and Technology Sec Sch in the country. Amen

i believe if old students of my almater would be made to see the need  for them to come back to help it will improve.most think that once they came otu that is it. let's sensitize old students through a national campaign and i believe things will work out. we love G.S.T.S. a lot because it is what has made us. i am also prepared to be part of the campaign drive if need be especially using the opportunity of the 95th anniversary.

I do not think we are well organized. We need to strengthen the old boys associations around the globe.

The formation and organization of association should not be done on an adhoc basis; rather it has to be concerted and well-coordinated. The office of the President of the National Old Boys Association, if there is one, should be charged with the responsibility of coordinating the activities and also disimating information amongst the various associations.

Also, appeals for funds and donations should be centralize and originate from one source, the office of the President, who ultimately have to account for how these donations were utilized.

A couple of years ago, I heard about the GSTS Fund. I was curious and wanted to know more about the fund and how I could contribute to it. So I posted an inquiry about the fund on this web page and two years later I'm still waiting! How can we blame the alumi for not giving back when we don't seem to have our house in order?

Every now and then I read about an appeal for funds towards the purchase of computers, new building etc. I think these appeals are becoming too frequent and thereby running the risk of losing its meaning and urgency. Instead of asking for contribution only when the need arises, we should encourage old boys to contribute into a well-managed "GSTS Fund". The interest generated by the fund can then be used to finance the various projects submitted by the school.

We as past students of the school need to been seen as active participants in raising the profile from the school to even a much higher level. By this I mean the current students need to see us actively helping to rectify some of the current problems the school is facing, this will hopefully start the trend for the current students to want to be a part of the even bigger family of past students after their education and also make them proud of their school. There is also a need to have better coordination between the various old boys round the world. That my fellow Tescans is view of the way forward. I am quite happy to communicate with any like minded people, there is more we can do for our school than we think we are capable of. Rally round brothers and sisters
