COMMENCEMENT OF MEETING:

Refreshment preceeded the meeting, which started at 5.30pm. Wg.Cdr. W,E. K. Kekrebesi introduced Prof. Ing. Kwesi Andam, as the chairman. The chaiman said GSTS was among the doyen of Ghana's educational institutions and must stand tall to be counted with the best. The vission was for GSTS Old Students to have a permanent meeting place in and around Accra in the form of a club house.

PROCEEDINGS OF THE MEETING

3.1 Upon taking the Chair, Prof. Ing. Andam then explained his vision in detail.

3.2 Prof Ing. Andam submitted that GSTS. Old Students need to have and maintain a permanent presence in the country considering the fact that there are only four or five secondary schools in Ghana that are older than GSTS. We should therefore create a category of excellence of our own and strive to always be among the best five, if not the best, in the country.

3.3 Prof. Ing Andam submitted further that there has been a dominant presence of GSTS Old Students across the hierarchies in the Army, Navy, Engineering and many other professional field in Ghana and in the Diaspora.

It should not be difficult to mobilize ourselves to support the Club House Project and subsequently other benevolent social projects for the improvement of our Alma Mater, and the country and humanity in general.

3.4 He said the GSTS Club House should serve as the “Spirit” of GSTS, which should keep alive and kicking ideas/actions towards about improving the school and its products.

3.5 It is his (Andam’s) vision that the Club House should be expanded to include Internet Café and Guest Accommodation sections.

3.6 He talked about the need to organize for the writing of “GSTS History Book”; and also the need to establish GSTS Founders’ Day Celebration.

3.7 Prof. Ing Andam suggested a monthly financially contribution / commitment of 1% of 2% to Take-Home-Pay of each gainfully employed Old Student for the operation and sustenance of GSTS Old Student Associations and benevolent projects for the school.

3.8 He then requested Mr. kweku Botchway to report on any progress on a search that had been initiated for land/property in Accra for the Club House.

3.9 Mr Kweky Botchway reported that he and Mr. Edward Ofei-Bekoe ahd been in touch with the Ministry of Works & Housing for a suitable Government / Public residential property that can be renovated / remodeled and used.

The indications are that such a property will cost in the range of Ghana Cedis equivalent of US$150,000.00 excluding renovation / remodeling costs.

3.10 Kweku Botchway

Mr Kweku Botchway was requested to kindly continue to pursue the search for further details including the properties / locations available and the terms of payment.

3.11 S. B. Attipoe-Denyah & George Otoo

Ing S.B Attipoe-Denyah indicated that he and Mr Geore Otoo could also look for alternative suitable land / property within up and coming private residential areas in Accra. Some members felt the locations of such private lands/properties may not be ideal; nevertheless they were encourage to make a search and report thereon.

3.12 Prof. Ing Andam then touched on how to mobilize financial resources to fund the Project. He said if we got 150 old Students to contribute US$1,000.00 each, the US$150,000.00 for the land /property acquisition will have been realized; if we got 300 Old students to contribute US$500.00 each, we will get the initial amount; etc. The more contributors we get, the lesser the financial burden on each.

3.13 Old Student Financial/Investment Expert

Other members suggested a one-off contribution of one million cedis (¢1,000.000.00) per each Old Student towards the project. This amount should later be converted into Equity Shares in the Club-House for each contributor. Both Old and new contributors will then be allowed to buy more Shares as and when they are properly authorized and issued. A member suggested that an old Students, who is financial / investment expert should be contacted on the subject “floating of shares.

3.14 Prof. Ing. Andam suggested that each member present should endeavour to bring the name and contact address of at least ten (10) Old Students they know to the next meeting on the Project.

3.15 Prof. Ing. Andam advised that the next time around, a “Chaplain” should be arranged for the meeting as everything that God is in, is bound to be successful.

4.0 CLOSING / NEXT MEETING:

4.1 The meeting came to an end at about 6.20pm.

4.2 The next meeting was scheduled for Wednesday 28th July 2004 at 5.00pm at same venue.
