GSTS loses to Presec-Legon: Maths & Science Quiz 2004 [Back to top]

The 2004 edition of the National science and math quiz competition was held at Achimota School as usual and took off on Tuesday, 13th April 2004. Balloting started on the same day and it was followed by the first of the preliminary contest.

Ghana Secondary Technical School (GSTS) had the chance of participating in this year's edition of the competition. Four contestants were presented. They were Frederick Adjei, Jesse Coulon, George Haack Osei Mensah and Stephen Boakye who was the fourth contestant serving as a substitute. By God's grace nothing happened and as such the first three contestants contested until they were kicked out at the quarterfinal stage of the competition.

We had the preliminary contest on Wednesday, 14th April 2004 with Dormaa Ahenkofi Secondary School from the Brong-Ahafo region. We won with a total mark of 88 against 63. The next match was at the ?th stage was between GSTS and the St. Augustine's college from the Central region. We won the match also with 82 points against 57 points of St. Augustine's. Unfortunately, the Presbyterian Boys Secondary School, Presec-Legon, kicked us out at the quarterfinals stage, which we lost by 70 points against 87 points.

In all because we won our preliminary contest we have paved way for our successors to go for the competition next year. We wish them all the best.

G.S.T.S WINS INTER-SCHOOL FOOTBALL COMPETITION AFTER OVER THIRTY YEARS [Back to top]

Is it basketball, athletics or academics in the Western World? The WESTERN GIANTS, Ghana Secondary Technical School, are foremost mentioned, given the maximum ayota of respect, but talk about football and all the folks tighten their stomach walls and laugh at us. For THIRTY-FIVE good years the ghost of defeat in football has always haunted us but the unconquerable, unbearable, undefeatable and unravageable football maestros of the 2003-2004 sent the ghost back to it eternal grave by turning the table to favour them.

Teams that mocked at us like Tadisco, Bompeh, T.T.I., Mpohor, St. Mary's etc. went home in pain, sorrow, fear, anger, just name their doom. They were beaten squarely with no mercies, it's going to be a scar and trauma they will never forget some memories never end you know.

Our first match began with a draw, which had Henry Entsir shaking the net of Mpohor in the hot first half. This was first a text drive. To prove they are skippers Seth Nyarah and Henry Entsir sent some strives down the spines of Bompeh in an easy 2 - 1 defeat. Defeat did got find its way back home on it had to sit at the doors of Tadisco with its master Seth Nyarah flying 2 deadly lashes into the net of the unfavoured as they only had a narrow chance of a goal to send the scores to a 2 -1 game. The fourth match brought a nightmare to Badu Bonsu's striker Kenneth Ansah accelerated his jet-like foot into whipping a deadly hot shot into Badu Bonsu's assumed guarded defence. This got us a 1 -0 victory.

Little did St Mary's Secondary School realize that Bright Duodu will give them a fair play in closing their game with a one all draw game.

The last matt was play between G.S.T.S. and Takoradi Technical which ended in a one nail defeat with Henry Entsir scoring the goal.

We can't just tell you how interesting it was on the final day. All the tutors in the field. Let us not forget our favourites 1.2.3, Sarquahs man and the other teachers present. Through we met obstacles and other things that tried to be stumbling blocks in our lives we surged against all odds and have made it. We don't want to forget our indispensable jama group with Atta Kwarteng Godwin as their leader, their support boosted our morale. And to our Headmaster and P.E. master we say a great thank you.

Finally meet the victorious team who made history.

GSTS loses to Achimota School: Maths & Science Quiz 2002 [Back to top]

In the preliminary contest GSTS met Ola Girls Secondary School on Wednesday, 2nd May. GSTS came off victorious by 65 to 45. This means GSTS has qualified to participate in the next year’s contest even if they are beaten by any other school later. While GSTS defeated Ola Girls, St. Francis Xavier School also beat Fijai Secondary School in a fiercely competitive contest. And so St. Francis was our next match in the 1/8 series.

When the contest with St. Francis took off the going was not easy for GSTS but with God on our side we managed to defeat them by 64 to 58. This qualified GSTS to meet Achimota School in the quarter finals. Achimota had beaten Keta Secondary School in a very tough contest by 85 to 82 to qualify for the quarter finals.

And then came the day of our contest with Achimota School. This time around the Achimota team was able to stop our team by 81 to 50 and so brought to an end our quest for the trophy. Achimota School went to meet St. Peter’s Secondary School at the semi-finals. However, Achimota was beaten by St. Peter’s 89 to 71 to move to the finals. Opoku Ware Secondary School also beat Presec Boy’s 85 to 79 to qualify for the finals too. For the third position, Presec met Achimota and beat them 90 to 67 to clinch that position. The last contest between Opoku Ware and St. Peter’s was a delight to watch. The performance of both teams was fantastic. The speed and accuracy of answers were amazing. Nevertheless there was to be a winner and only one. Opoku Ware proved to be better and came out the winners with 80 against St. Peter’s 74 points. So for the 2002 edition of the National Science and Maths Quiz competition Opoku Ware Secondary School came out as the winners of the trophy. The first runner-up was St. Peter’s of Nkwatia. The third position went to Presec Boy’s of Accra.

GSTS WINS SEKCO ANNIVERSARY QUIZ [Back to top]

At the Holy Child Training College campus on the 5th of October 2001, tension was mounting, as the supposed best schools of the West were about to meet to show their various aptitudes. GSTS, Sekondi College (SEKCO), Fijai Secondary School and Archbishop Porter Girls' School were all in the soup and he who jumped out of this hell would emerge King. This was all to help mark SEKCO's 50th Anniversary celebrations. The preparation began but there was too much of SEKCO in the soup, then GSTS came along, displaced SEKCO and the others and maintained its sweetness in the soup. GSTS continued to be the main ingredient of the soup till preparation was over and then Archbishop Porter's decided to tarry along with Fijai and SEKCO lagging behind in that order. In the end GSTS was happy because she had indeed made the soup "gye".

GSTS WINS WESTERN REGIONAL ROTARY QUIZ 2001 [Back to top]

What's it with these wonder boys at all? Do they want to swoop everything? In 1999 and 2000 they lifted the trophy like candy from a baby and now they've done it again. It all begun on October 23rd 2001 when they met Diabene Secondary School, Mpohor Secondary School and St Mary's Boy's Secondary School at the Takoradi Secondary School Assembly Hall. Man it started off hot and they went through hell - the nervous 'Sec Tech' quartet. They were lagging behind at the end of the first round. Then like a holocaust they swept the quiz room and took a leading never to be caught up with. The others were running but could not catch up so we won.

Three days later, on the 26th, they were up again for the finals. Man now the tension was really rising. They had to show their prowess as the best in the West for the third time in a month - sheeesh, what a trial!! Well the show boys met Takoradi Secondary School, Sekondi College again and Bompeh Secondary Technical School. OH no, no SEKCO again. They were really looking for us. Again, we displaced them with considerable effort and with God's aid, we emerged victors. Man the trophy for the third time in 3 years and 500,000 and boxes of books - we really deserved it. Well TADISCO, SEKCO and BOMPEH trailed behind us cleaning the dirt we'd left!.

UN MODEL SECURITY COUNCIL SESSION 2001 - GSTS ON TOP [Back to top]

The annual Ghana United Nations Students and Youth Association (GUNSA) Model Security Council came off at GSTS on 27th October 2001 at the schools Assembly Hall. After T.K. resounded in the visitors ears, "…no one is allowed to cross that field," the war begun. GSTS met the likes of Wesley Girls' High School, Holy Child College, Mfantsipim school and Adisadel as well as the other Western schools with Sekondi College promising to get even. But we have this great God and strange way of getting what belongs to us. How could they want to beat us in our own school? So it begun and we did our "lafaing" - LAFA - locally acquired foreign accents and GEY HEY went "what often baffles us…" and GSTS emerged winner with "The United Kingdom pledges its unflinching support…" with all the British intonation possible that was said to be so British that some people thought one of BBC's reporters was in the Assembly Hall reading. So we swooped the prices and it was a great month - Three triumphs in October.
